Benedetta Calandra

Benedetta Calandra (PhD University of Rome Three, 2005; MA University of London, Institute of Latin American Studies, 2000) is a Full Professor in History and Institutions of the Americas, with a special focus on contemporary Latin America, at the University of Bergamo, Italy, Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures. She was an Associate Fellow from 2016 to 2018 at Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies, SAIS Europe, Bologna, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Italian Association of International History (SISI), from 2018 to 2021.

Research interests: contemporary history of Latin America, human rights, political exile, cultural relations between the United States and Latin America, cultural Cold War, women's associationism, and reproductive rights among the Americas. She has participated in television debates and is the author of four monographs, articles, and book chapters published in Spain, UK, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, the United States, and Israel.
